Jumping Spring Heeled Jack (SHJ)

"The first claimed sighting of Spring_Heeled_Jack that is known occurred in 1837." SHJ is quite a fascinating urban legend that does seemed to have started in 1837. He seems to be a negative version of the Batman character. Indeed, it seems that Bob_Kane created the Batman character about a century after the first accounts of SHJ.

By the late 1860s, SHJ was becoming quite a scary legend. A century later, the Rolling Stones had their hit song about a menacing Jumping Jack humanoid.

The Version Without the Makeup
While JJF could have marked the start of the Rolling Stones becoming an all makeup waring band, they chose to mostly avoid the over the top makeup. That style would be reserved for KISS.

The Rolling Stones & KISS
The RS bands' official logo features lips & a tong.
"After the demise of his band, Lips, Criss placed an ad in the East Coast edition of Rolling Stone, which read: EXPD. ROCK & roll drummer looking for orig. grp. doing soft & hard music. Peter, Brooklyn." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Criss#Kiss
{In late 1972, Simmons and Stanley came across an ad in the East Coast version of Rolling Stone placed by Peter Criss, a veteran drummer from the New York club scene, who was previously in bands called "Lips" and...} http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiss_(band)#History
So a man from Lips joins a band that features a man with a big tong. http://www.kissonline.com/history/
Unlike the Rolling Stones, KISS mostly is a band that's in full makeup & costumes. Its surprising that KISS never had a song about the horrific SHJ legend. There should be movies & extensive documentaries about the monstrous SHJ.

Masks & makeup have been around in show business for quite some time now.
Perhaps Alice Cooper & Ozzy Osbourne started the monster music trend.
