In early versions of the script the eggs were to be located in a separate pyramid structure which would be found later by the Nostromo crew and would contain statues and hieroglyphs depicting the Alien reproductive cycle, offering a contrast of the human, Alien, and space jockey cultures. Cobb, Foss, and Giger each created concept artwork for these sequences, but they were eventually discarded due to budgetary concerns and the need to trim the length of the film. Instead the egg chamber was set inside the derelict ship and was filmed on the same set as the space jockey scene; the entire disc piece supporting the jockey and its chair were removed and the set was redressed to create the egg chamber.

Alien originally was to conclude with the destruction of the Nostromo while Ripley escapes in the shuttle Narcissus. However, Ridley Scott conceived of a "fourth act" to the film in which the Alien appears on the shuttle and Ripley is forced to confront it. He pitched the idea to 20th Century Fox and negotiated an increase in the budget in order to film the scene over several extra days. Scott had wanted the Alien to bite off Ripley's head and then make the final log entry in her voice, but the producers vetoed this idea as they believed that the Alien had to die at the end of the film."}

What are monsters anyway? When is a dog just a dog, that's The Thing, isn't it? Cujo becomes the classic rabid dog on the loose story. Is a Rottweiler, just more of a big dog than a Monster? Its not all black & white within the spectrum of light. The Giant_Panda can become just as ferocious as a polar bear. In a way, the big destructive monster in Cloverfield was just a confused & angry pup. The Grizzly/polar_bear_hybrid isn't some CGI effect from a movie or TV series. However, a Hybrid isn't always a monster. Dogs have been crossbred for quite some time. The Rottweiler is quite a big & tough dog, but they aren't all monsters, just because of their size. When a being is a mutant, or has been augmented with surgical upgrades, could there be a higher chance of it becoming a monster? Several factors are involved in the development of natural & altered life forms. Is SPLICE just another monster movie? Its also about a chimera, how a composite life form is created in a lab, gets big, angry & confused & then escapes.

Monsters from space & other dimensions have become a common sci-fi theme through the years. Was SHJ simply an urban legend about a menacing monster, or a confused & frustrated being that was trapped on earth for several decades? Throughout history, several books & movies have depicted some people as monsters. While what might be considered a monster on the outside sometimes ends up being kindlier than some people. It all depends upon the motives & circumstances. The forces of yin & yang, light & darkness are perceived at various levels.
